Pink and Navy Nautical Collection: A Preppy 1st Birthday for Eliza Brooks

I’m so excited to share with you Eliza’s very first birthday party! I chose this pink and navy nautical theme after deciding that we wanted to have her party on the lake in our neighborhood. With a lakeside setting, preppy nautical seemed to be the perfect fit! Miss E also has two pink and navy outfits that were among my favorites on her so it was settled… a preppy pink and navy nautical celebration! The weather was perfect and it was a beautiful evening to spend with some dear friends. Now getting there, that is another story! It was one of those days where more seemed to go unplanned than planned. And I am quite the planner!! However, thanks to my wonderful hubbie, parents and some fabulous vendors, Eliza’s celebration came together just as I hoped for her very special day! My baby is ONE!

The wonderful pictures are courtesy of Princess P. Photography. Wow, Stacy was way more than a photographer! She took pictures, assisted, took pictures, assembled, took pictures, taped, and took more pictures on top of that! What a blessing! You can see lots more of Stacy’s fabulous work at princesspphotography.com. Thank you, Stacy, for giving of your time and services!!

The table on the lawn was set for our little party friends. Since my sewing expertise are zero, my mom made the navy table cloth. I found the best bargain on fabric, add a coupon and we made the table cloth for $3! I designed the place mats, napkin wraps, stickers and flag straws to coordinate with our nautical theme. All items will be available for purchase in the shop very soon. The table and white chairs were kindly offered by It’s My Party in Alpharetta. It’s My Party is your full party rental for bounce houses, tents, popcorn machines and all kinds of adorable items for your big events. Last year, I showed up to a party rental company and my table and chairs were not there. Our party quickly turned into a picnic! It’s My Party had our order on the sidewalk and ready to load instantly. Wonderful!

It was so much fun to design the invitations for Eliza. The invites are always my very favorite part! I lined the navy envelopes with a pink stripe paper and sealed them with a coordinating return address sticker. I’ll have to get some pictures and a tutorial for you. So easy and waaayyy less expensive than purchasing lined envelopes. It’s those silly little details that I get excited about!

We set up the party table inside the gazebo and filled it with the talents of so many! The cake…. oh I loved the cake! A big thanks to Jamie and Creations Bakery in Cumming for designing exactly what I had in mind! Creations is not only a bakery, but it is full of baking supplies and party items. They also host parties where the birthday child can decorate cakes with their friends. Isn’t that a fun party idea! For the children, I made “sailor sandwiches” and popped them in these way cute pink lunch bags to make a peanut butter sandwich feel a little more fun. The bags are from Party Depotin Cumming. This store is 5 minutes from our house and I just now discovered it! Wow, what a find and sooo reasonably priced! Party Depot has a great supply of party goods, balloons and one very sweet owner. Thank you, Nancy, for your adorable pink polka dot and navy balloons!

So many customers ask me about water bottle wraps and how I make them. Super simple! Print them on regular paper, cut and use a bit of glue stick to adhere to the bottle. Sometimes, I add a small piece of clear tape in the back. They fit any standard size water bottle, but the shape of Kroger brand water bottles seem to work extra well for me. Chill them in the fridge before the party and lay them out just before your guests arrive. You can use a sticker label if you’d like, but I find the paper wraps to be much easier to work with. The wraps will also be available for purchase with the preppy nautical collection soon

More cuteness arrived on my doorstep courtesy of Sweet Goosie Girl. How adorable are these anchor cookies?! Terri, the creative hands behind Sweet Goose Girl, really has some talent! If you can dream it, she can make it! The packaging in itself was really amazing to be sure her delights arrived safely. On top of cuteness, they were delicious. I fully admit to eating one within minutes of their arrival. I have a serious sweet tooth! Thank you, Sweet Goosie Girl!

I filled a dollar bin Target pail with “Life Preservers” aka Lifesavers. The individual containers were pretzel goldfish that I labeled as “Catch of the Day”. The cute containers were one of my fun finds. We were eating lunch at Atlanta Bread & Co. and those perfect little containers were served with the kid’s meal. It never hurts to ask! I offered to purchase some and the kind manager gave me as many as I needed. Love it!

And the cuteness continues! Claudia the Cupcake Lady whipped up these perfectly coordinating fondant toppers! I really need to learn to bake, but thank goodness for friendly talent! Claudia sent her way cute toppers along with a sailboat topper for Eliza’s smash cake. All of her products are available for purchase in her etsy shop, including my very favorite nautical goodies! Thank you, Claudia, for your attention to detail!

I used the coordinating navy paper for some DIY popcorn cones and labeled them “Popcorn for the Shrimps” with the nautical collection menu tents. We put together some mini yogurt parfaits topped with blueberries as a healthy snack for the kiddos. The individual parfait cups were found at Party City and I can’t wait to use them again!

The navy and pink striped paper straws were graciously sent by Fun Paper Straws. Talk about fast service! I contacted Fun Paper Straws about being one of our contributors and the straws were in the mail within hours!! I designed some coordinating straw flags and voila! Thank you, Gary, for your incredible customer service!

I created a slideshow for my big girls on their first birthday, but since we were outside I had to settle for a few of my favorite pictures.  Anna Claire and Julia LOVE watching their “picture movie” so it is still on my list to create for Miss E.  As our friends left, we sent them home with a goody bag of personalized notes along with their hand-built sailboat.  The favor bags along with tons of adorable party products can be found at Shop Sweet Lulu.  Super cute shop!

I wish I had pictures of the girls building their sailboats.  I thought it would be a fun activity for both the boys and girls and it turned out that only one of our little guy friends was able to come.  So we had lots of little girls with hammers and nails, building sailboats.  It was really cute!  My dad cut all the wood pieces and my mom made the sails.  Below is one snapshot of my own as they set sail in the lake.  My Anna Claire is in the pink shirt, Julia is in the navy and Eliza was watching in the background. The sailboats are available for purchase. My dad has continued to build them for lots of Preppy Nautical parties!

It has been an incredible year that has just flown by.  We are so thankful for our Eliza and loved every minute of celebrating her. I leave you with a few sweet shots from Eliza’s one year photo shoot.  Photos by Katie Davidson Photography and the balloons are from Party Depot.

Happy Birthday, Eliza Brooks Allen!  You are so very loved!

Christmas Gift Idea: Chapstick Nose Printables

If you are in need of some stocking stuffers or little gift ideas, these freebies are adorable!! My girls love chapstick. LOVE! I spotted this free Rudolph printable by Vanessa Brady of Tried & True, bought my EOS lip balm and gave it a whirl. Simple, practical and so cute! I made 4 in probably 15 minutes. I actually strayed from the directions a bit and made it even easier. I skipped the foam board and just used scissors to cut out the nose. It worked perfectly! To finish, I put the lip balm printable into a clear cellophane bag with a red polka dot ribbon. It turned out even cuter in person! I’m making some for my nieces and our sweet baby-sitter next. If you like Rudolph, grab the free download and all the directions HERE!

My friend, Krista, also found the adorable Santa and Snowman printables by Dimple Prints. Grab the free download for Santa or the snowman HERE! You can find the EOS lip balms at Target, Walmart and I’m sure most pharmacies. In our Target, they are often hanging out in the checkout lane or on the end cap in the make-up section. At Walmart, they were with the lip balms in the medicine area. If you are going for a red nose, the color you need is called Summer Fruit. It looked a little fuchsia in the store, but the color was perfect once I got it home. Thanks Dimple Prints and Tried & True for such creative ideas!!

Rec Tec vs Traeger: The Battle of the Top Pellet Grills

Also commonly known as pellet smokers, pellet grills are heaven-sent for all BBQ lovers because they combine convenience, temperature control, and smoky flavor. Simply put, pellet grills combine gas grills, traditional ovens, and charcoal smokers features in one product.

Some pellet smokers feature electric temperature control panels that regulate airflow and feed fuel to the fire, which leads to even cooking temperature. Some models even have high-precision temp control and sensors.

Today we want to look at the two leading brands in this industry in our Rec Tec vs Traeger review.

Establishment of Rec Tec and Traeger

Rec Tec was founded in 2011 and has been transforming the grilling industry with the provision of high-quality products.

On the flip side, Traeger was developed in 1985 and has always been the most famous brand for these grills. It provides both small and big smokers to fit all kind of budgets.

Comparing Rec Tec and Traeger

The two brands have similar and differing features as you will see below:

Custom Features

When looking at the comparison of the two brands, you should always note that Traeger provides what it really advertise (what you see). Many brands make essentials that work perfectly with Traeger BBQ but this company also makes best wood pellet grill, grills, and other items.

Rec Tec makes different items and embellishments that you can add to your grill. The firm even produces stockpiling racks for appending the base of your BBQ.

Temperature Control

Traeger was among the first brands to add a digital temperature screen on grills. The screen uses splendid and strong red numbers that you can easily see when cooking in the dark. Its products also come with a standard temperature dial.

Rec Tec also adds its unique temperature display screen. It also includes its patented smart grill tech highlight that gives you the freedom of choosing a specific temperature.

Temperature Range

Rec Tec provides pellet grills with a variable temperature that ranges from 180-500 degree Fahrenheit.

Traeger pellet grills often come with a temperature setting of 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Grilling Surface

The most bulbous Rec Tec pellet grills have a huge surface of over 700 square which is enough for cooking. However, they are usually less spacious when compared to Traeger models.

Traeger grills are so big such that they can cook 6 turkeys at a go or up to 30 burgers at once.

Portability

Rec Tec produces a little BBQ with easy to collapse legs, making it a great model for use in parking areas or campgrounds. They also have trucks that you can use to secure them.

On the other hand, Traeger grills come with comparative trucks. But what really differentiate Traeger models from Rec Tec is that you can remove the trucks and lay your BBQ on any surface.

Who Wins?

Picking a winner of Rec Tec vs Traeger debate can be a tall order because both brands make great BBQs. Generally, Traeger models are often the best but Rec Tec provides pellet grills with smart grill technology.
