{Advent Calendars} Treasuring the Season

As I shared earlier this month, I worked extremely hard to be an early Christmas shopper this year.  I am usually a December 24th, one last thing, wrapping at midnight, kind of girl.  For the first time in my entire life, I set a goal to shop early and be done by December 1st.  Drum roll please….. I AM DONE!!!!!!!!  With exception to a few stationery orders (my family is probably so tired of paper), I somehow met my goal!  I can’t even tell you how excited I am!!!  I love Christmas, I love being out in the hustle and bustle.  I just want to be out without the pressure of finding that last gift. Most importantly, I want to truly enjoy this season with my family and teach my little girls the incredible purpose for our grand celebrations.  It’s not about presents.  It’s not about us.

Last year, we started an advent tree with special ornaments to hang each day.  With each ornament came a nightly devotional and sweet family time with purpose.  This year,  the girls will open an envelope each night that shares a service project, fun activity or act of kindness that we will do the next day.  Most of my ideas came from a wonderful blog, Lil Light O’Mine.  Does your family have an advent calendar? There are so many fun and meaningful ways to countdown to Christmas.  I hope your family can treasure this very special month!
